In spring of 2003, Iguana Design – a high-end fabrication shop for the Vancouver film industry – asked us to contribute our creative & technical abilities to help create the signature gadgets & gismos of four feature films.

The carpenters on Chronicles of Riddick needed a series of custom made instrument panels for the elaborate cockpit they were building. With deadlines piling up, Iguana brought us in to detail the final production parts.

Working from early concept drawings supplied by the art department, we built 3D files integrating dozens of switches, screens, knobs, dials and gauges. Throughout the process, we double- and triple-checked the assembly, refining the layout to minimize interference between all the components.

We also helped develop the concept for three futuristic computer screens, each composed of a custom aluminum lens held by four custom milled aluminum standoffs. Even thought the graphics were added in post-production, they still look great on camera.
