In spring of 2003, Iguana Design a high-end fabrication shop for the Vancouver film industry asked us to contribute our creative & technical abilities to help create the signature gadgets & gismos of four feature films. When the head of props department for I Robot approached Iguana Design, they needed an arsenal high-tech gear. Police badges & helmets, portable holographic display units, custom weaponry and electronics were all on the list. Double Dare Design jumped into full-gear, assisting Iguana with concept models in Solid Works, followed by production ready part designs. The critical integration of components from the onset of the design process resulted in a rapid-fire response to the props department's design needs. We were primarily involved with the development of the holographic display unit, used by Will Smith's character "Spooner" to unravel the mysterious death of his colleague. The unit made use of surface mounted leds to backlight a custom milled acrylic lens. Simple, yet effective, the battery powered unit had an off/on switch on the back allowing the actors to activate it during filming. Cut! That's a wrap! Check it out on DVD. Go to www.iguanafilm.com |
